Bangladesh turned in one of their worst performances of their history against the West Indies in their last fixture. Shakib Al Hasan’s side were shot out for a miserly 58, a figure that could have been even less but for Junaid Siddique’s fluent score at the top. Irate fans vented out their anger at the result in Mirpur and even stoned Al Hasan’s house.
With the loss against the Windies, Bangladesh’s fixture against England becomes a virtual must win for the home side if they are to harbour any ambitions of making it to the quarterfinal of the event. A change in venue- all of their previous games were played in Dhaka, might actually help the Bangladeshis.
England’s bowlers helped them script a famous victory over South Africa in their last fixture. Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad and James Anderson were the architects of that stunning victory over the Proteas. However Broad has returned home with a side strain and is likely to be replaced by the lanky Christopher Tremlett. The same goes for Kevin Pietersen, whose spot in the side will be taken by fluent left hander Eoin Morgan.
