Donaire, who was born in the Philippines before moving to San Francisco, is unanimously ranked in the top 10 pound-for-pound boxers in the world. Many would argue he’s in the top five. After Donaire’s triumph against Wladimir Sidoreko for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Bantamweight Title last December 4, 2010 where he knocked down Sidorenko thrice and became the first man to stop Sidorenko. In an interview on the same event, he uttered his intention to fight the Mexican boxer.

Montiel with a professional boxing record of 44 Wins (34 KOs), 2 Losses and 2 Draws have impressively defended his bantamweight title against a Filipino challenger named Ciso Morales where he knocked down the latter on the first round of their fight last February 13, 2010 and his latter KO win against Rafael Concepcion last October 30, 2010 sealed his reputation as the best boxer of the bantamweight division
