K. NolanNewcastle scored twice in each half to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 in the Premier League on Saturday, taking the team into the top of the half of the standings and sending its opponent into the relegation zone.
Kevin Nolan in the 22nd minute and Shola Ameobi in the 45th gave Newcastle a comfortable lead at halftime, and Peter Lovenkrands extended it five minutes after the break at St. James Park.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave Wolves some hope of getting back in the match in the 58th, but Jonas Gutierrez restored Newcastle's three-goal advantage with a superb solo effort in injury time.
Newcastle rose to ninth in the table, seven points above the relegation zone. Wolves dropped to 19th, a point from safety.
